Unsuccess is apparently a real word. Cool! So, we only got 22% of the way to our $15,000 goal to print Sell Outs after a 30 day campaign. However, we had almost one hundred backers, a lot of whom are people that found us organically. We learned about the mistakes we made during our pre-campaign time, we came across some new ideas, and we got a lot of support that left us feeling encouraged to try again with the new information!
The gut reaction to this news would be to get upset. However, I am not actually convinced we were ready to launch yet. Sell Outs is a great game, and I think our progress during this first campaign shows that. Gamers have taken notice at how well developed Sell Outs is. This means that the problem was with us. We focused very heavily on polishing Sell Outs, and not nearly enough time on polishing the campaign. Not enough time showing it off at public events. Not enough time getting backers before our Kickstarter went live.
The Will To Carry On
So we are taking a step back. We are going to spend some time rebuilding our campaign, reaching out to influencers, showing it off at more conventions, cafes, and bars. We are going to take some time to build some community. And when we relaunch, we should have a much stronger shot out of the gate! Long story short, just because we were not successful does not need to mean we failed. Our unsuccess was a learning experience on where we can improve.
Our limited success shows us what we can accomplish with a little help. I have no doubt we’ll be able to see a much better run next time around. A big shout out to everyone who helped us out along the way. Your support, encouragement and passion went a long way towards making this project a reality. And with your help next time we will succeed.
