Prioritizing Scope Creep

I haven’t written a real update in a while. I should get better at this. So this project has presented a very new challenge for me. I knew from the beginning that this would be a big project. It’s only now, about two months before our planned Kickstarter launch date, that I realize how much I underestimated it. Scope creep is real, and it haunts me. We are, for the most part, just a team of two working on a majority of this project, and we know little of business, printing, distribution, and a lot of other challenges we face over the coming months.

However, I’ve started making a list, and checking it twice. Trying to find out which tasks are naughty or nice. We have a lot of goals to complete before January, but I know that if we put our noses to the grindstone, we can achieve them… -uary. I have surprised myself on a few occasions during the development of Sell Outs. Particularly, spitefully completing a card sheet for printing during one alcohol fueled night of learning illustrator, making the first big leap of actually printing the first beta set, and starting this project in the first place.

The Campaign

I think at this point, the only things that are totally vital for our go-live date is the Kickstarter copy, the rewards, some glamour shots, our campaign video, and some artwork. That, and at least a minor following that will help lead to our success. We are getting close to crunch time, but I think we have a good path laid out ahead of us. As long as we get to work on it, we should have plenty of time to get everything done before the actual campaign. With a little focus, we can manage the scope creep, and at least do our part to contribute to the success of this project.

I’d like to have a lot of rewards levels because I want people to know that their decision to back Sell Outs is highly appreciated. We have a number of ideas for rewards, including an early beta print copy, small personalized packs of cards, all planned expansions, a voice in what goes into an expansion, and more. If all goes well, we’ll have everything including campaign and fulfillment completed before the end of 2017. I have to be honest though, I am not sure what I am more worried about: That we won’t hit our goal, or that we will.

Not that I am afraid of success, but at that point, it all becomes real. We’ll have a real product that we have to do real work on, and there won’t be any room for slacking. We’ll have more deadlines, lots of obligations, and so much more that we need to take care of. On the plus side, we’ll have free-reign to govern our business as we see fit. And, as Alex pointed out to me, it would be amazing to walk into a store, and see the product we created sitting on the shelf.

A Final Goal

I would love to run an entertainment based company. Videos, streaming, podcasts, board games, video games. The market for each of these becomes more saturated every day, so who knows what will come of any of this. If this campaign reaches it’s goal, we have a small, but decent chance of finding at least a small home in some of these. We have been discussing starting a podcast, we have some ideas for video games, and we have at least two other ideas for more board games, and I hope it is not too late to get a foothold.

BY THE WAY

If you haven’t heard yet, we have a Free Print and Play available, and Sell Outs can now be found in the Steam Workshop for Tabletop Simulator! Check it out now! Or else!

  1. BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN! [LINK REMOVED] I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don’t know how to cook or clean, don’t want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women? American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least. This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.
